Case studies · Cascais, Portugal

Case studies from real client jobs.

Each one is a job we delivered: what the client needed, how we engineered it, and how it fits. Reference pieces further down are labelled as such.

§ 01 · Client jobs

A new white 3D-printed lid for an outdoor pool control box beside the cracked smoked-plastic original.
№ 004 · Homes & property

Lid for an outdoor pool control box.

The front lid of an outdoor pool control box had cracked, leaving the timer, breaker and switches open to the weather. We took the shape from the broken original and printed a new lid in two halves, joined along the middle.

The cracked original post cap beside the new white ASA cap with its black TPU gasket.
№ 003 · Homes & property · ASA + TPU

Caps for a pool-cover reel, Parede.

Both caps on the posts of a pool-cover reel had failed after years of sun: one cracked through, the other gone. We measured the posts on site, rebuilt the cap in CAD and printed a matching pair in white ASA, with a custom TPU seal in place of the original's moulded fins.

№ 001 · Custom design · PLA

White 3D-printed dash cover fitted over the TFT instrument screen of a Moto Guzzi Stelvio parked in Cascais.
№ 002 · Motorcycles · ASA + TPU 85A

TFT dash cover, Moto Guzzi Stelvio, Cascais.

A Stelvio owner wanted the bike's 12.7 cm TFT dash covered while it sits parked in the sun, and nothing on the market fitted. We measured the screen surround on the bike and made a vented ASA shell with a bonded TPU 85A seal. It grips the surround, clears the glass, and lifts off by hand.

§ 02 · Reference pieces

What the process produces.

Everything below is a reference piece, shown to demonstrate the kind of part we make and the material we would specify for it. None of these is a client job, and none is shown as one.

Reference piece3D-printed VHF radio bracket installed on a helm station.

Helm-mount VHF holster.

A sheltered helm fitting. PETG gives a structural fit that takes modest UV without going brittle.

MarinePETG
Reference piece3D-printed replica hatch hinge for a boat.

Hatch-hinge replica.

A moving fit, rebuilt around its pin and its mounting holes rather than traced off the worn original.

MarinePETG
Reference piece3D-printed cable pass-through cover for a sailboat helm.

Cable pass-through, sailboat helm.

A cover that has to close a hole someone else drilled. The scan supplies the hole, not a catalogue size.

MarinePETG
Reference piece3D-printed replacement marine hose union.

Marine hose-union replica.

Deck level and sun-exposed, so ASA. It stays stable in UV where PLA would chalk and fail inside a season.

MarineASA
Reference piece3D-printed replica window handle on a dark wood frame.

Window handle replica.

An indoor visual replica in PLA, matched to the original profile so one broken handle doesn't mean replacing every window.

HomePLA
Reference piece3D-printed dashboard vent knob for a classic-car interior.

Dashboard vent knob, classic-car interior.

Behind glass, cabin heat and direct sun would soften PLA, so ASA.

Classic carsASA
Reference pieceFlexible 3D-printed phone mount for a helm console.

Flexible helm-console phone mount.

Printed in TPU, so the mount flexes with the console instead of cracking at the bolt holes.

§ 03 · What comes next

How a job ends up on this page.

When a job is finished and the client is happy to be named, it gets a page like the lamps: the photo that started it, the scan or the measurements it came from, the CAD reconstruction, the material and the reason for it, and how the part sat when it went in. Most parts take three to seven days from the first photo to the finished piece, and the page is the record of that week.

Nothing goes up without the client's agreement, and the studio is young, so this page will grow slowly. That suits us. A short page of work we can stand behind is worth more than a long one we cannot.

Take two

Your part could be the next one here.

Send a photo on WhatsApp. We'll say whether we can make it, and we'll say when 3D printing is the wrong answer for your part. Engineering a new part starts at €120, quoted after we've seen it. Parts we have already engineered carry a fixed price.

The studio's main work is engineering replacement parts for boats, homes, workshops and farms, motorcycles, RVs and custom cars. See how that works →
